Unlocking Africa’s Agricultural Potential: A Path to Sustainable Development and Global Food
Agriculture is a major contributor and solution to building a sustainable economy in Africa. The continent’s population is over 1.4 billion and projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050 therefore it is imperative to ensure there is provision to feed the growing population. There is a need to produce new and rapid growing crop varieties for food and nutrition, ensure there is an adequate processing and storage capacity to preserve the food. Africa holds 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land and if properly utilized will meet both Africa’s, and the global food demand, which will increase by 70% by 2050, according to the “World Bank forecasts“.
